Tamiya BB-02 Volkswagen Beetle 1/9 R/C Buggy

Following on from the hugely popular Tamiya BBX (BB-01), Tamiya introduces the exciting new BB-02 rear-wheel-drive buggy chassis.

Inspired by the Volkswagen Beetles that compete in American off-road racing, this 1/9 scale R/C kit combines classic Beetle styling with a purpose-built off-road chassis and an impressive level of scale detail.

• Newly designed 1.0mm polycarbonate body recreates an off-road racing Beetle with bulging front and rear fenders and the rear engine hood removed

• Black moulded light cases allow separately sold LED lights to be fitted

• Includes seated driver and co-driver figures with full-face helmets and dedicated arm parts

New BB-02 Chassis

The rear-wheel-drive BB-02 chassis has been designed for serious off-road performance while retaining the scale appearance of a full-size race-prepared Beetle.

The floor pan incorporates front and rear tyre housings to help protect the chassis from dust and dirt, while the R/C equipment box is neatly positioned beneath the driver and co-driver figures.

A lengthwise battery position combined with the rear-mounted motor provides excellent weight distribution and balance.

The sealed gearbox incorporates a ball differential, while the drive shafts feature joint boots for dependable off-road running.

Two Front Suspension Options

One of the standout features of the BB-02 is the choice of two different front suspension configurations.

Double Trailing Arms

• Inspired by suspension commonly found on full-size vehicles

• Longer arms with increased suspension stroke

• Excellent straight-line stability

• Particularly suited to flatter dirt surfaces

Double Wishbone Arms

• Inspired by unlimited-class off-road racing vehicles

• Long suspension arms provide excellent ground-hugging performance

• Improved stability during jumps

• Particularly suited to demanding off-road courses

The rear uses a trailing-arm suspension setup, giving the BB-02 four-wheel independent suspension.

Adaptive Dampers

The BB-02 also features adaptive dampers designed to reduce oil leakage.

As the damper piston moves, the oil seal changes shape and allows air to pass through the hole, helping minimise oil leakage during use.

Wheels & Tyres

Hex-hub wheels are paired with:

• Front rib-pattern tyres for directional stability

• Rear square-spike tyres for excellent off-road grip

The battery can also be installed conveniently from underneath the chassis by opening the battery hatch.

A fantastic combination of classic Volkswagen Beetle looks, scale realism and modern Tamiya off-road engineering, the new BB-02 looks set to be another very exciting addition to Tamiya's R/C buggy range.
